Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a radiological test that helps with the diagnosis of breast conditions. MR imaging uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of the breast. The images can then be examined on a computer monitor or printed. MRI does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays). MRI of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound. It may be suggested as a screening study for women at higher risk of developing breast cancer.
